I think that should have taken you to a screen on the Magix website where you could 'register' your software and then be sent a serial key by email.
When you wrote that when I downloaded it asked for my serial number, I assume you mean you attempted to install it from the DVD. Given the above, and returning to your original question I think I now understand the problem you are having.
